Anchorage Man Arrested on Child Pornography ChargesPolice looking into possibility of local victimsANCHORAGE - A 61-year-old Anchorage man has been arrested for having and distributing child pornography. Between September and December of last year, police say Donald T. Johnson sent an undercover state trooper numerous videos depicting men sexually abusing children as young as two years old. Johnson was arraigned today on two counts of possession and seven counts of distribution of child pornography. Bail was set at $10,000 with mandatory custody appointed to a court-approved third party should Johnson post bail. At Johnson’s arraignment today, charging documents report that the children in the tapes ranged between two and 14 years old. Troopers subpoenaed Johnson’s internet service provider, and when it was learned that he was located in the Anchorage bowl, they handed the case over to Anchorage police. Johnson was arrested yesterday after police delivered a warrant for his arrest and searched his residence. They seized numerous computers, hard drives, and digital material from his residence. APD says it's looking in to whether any of the children on the tapes were local victims. “The investigation is still ongoing,” APD Detective Mark Thomas said. Images and video recovered from Johnson’s home will be matched to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children database. Anything that isn’t already in their database, Thomas said, indicates a new — and potentially local — victim. “If we get those back, we definitely [will] take a second [and] deeper look, and we're going to figure out where these came from.” “We know the real evidence is going to be on those computers and the external hard drives,” he said. Right now, Thomas said, even with cameras among the items taken from Johnson’s home, he does not think Johnson was filming or photographing local victims. Detectives say if you know of any contact between Donald Johnson and children, or have reason to believe children were abused, you can call Anchorage Police at 786.8900, or Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP (7867). |
