ANCHORAGE - If you have overdue library books at home no matter how long you've had them now is the time to return them.

For the first time in 25 years the Anchorage Public Library will forgive fines on overdue materials if you return them on its amnesty day – that will be Wednesday, April 18th.

Library officials say they are holding the amnesty day as a way to welcome people back to the library who were avoiding late fees and overdue fines.

“They get something overdue, they think the fines are much larger than they really are, or that one overdue book puts a black mark against them forever,” said Nancy Tileston, Interim Director of the Anchorage Public Library. “And we want to be able to erase that library guilt and have people come back and be patrons in good standing.

You can return the items you have at any of the five public library locations.
