UPDATE: Police have identified the deceased as 56-year-old Mark Crider. Foul play is not suspected.

ANCHORAGE - Anchorage police and firefighters responded to a possible drowning death behind the Ben Boeke Arena, Monday evening.

APD said just before 5 p.m. a man walking to work spotted the body lying facedown in Chester Creek by the pedestrian bridge, behind the Anchorage football stadium.

Police said medical personnel began CPR before transporting the unidentified man to a local hospital.

According to APD, the man died after 6 p.m.

APD said it believes this to be a possible cold water drowning and in many such cases people survive for much longer periods than they would in warmer water, but it is unknown how long the man was in the creek at this time.
