GIRDWOOD - It's been a fantastic season for skiers and snow boarders at Alyeska.

Monday was the final day of lift operated skiing and the sun was shinning on the more than 500 people who hit the slopes.

The month of May saw 96 inches added to an already great snow fall.

Resort operators said it's been one of the best winters they've ever seen.

"Not only 962 inches of snow for the season since October 1, but the quality of the snow has been spectacular and now we are still sitting on 156 inches of snow at the top of Chair 6 - that's 13 feet,” said Brian Burnett.

“We're expecting it to take a little longer for this monster snow pack to melt up high, but we expect to be able to open to lift-access mountain biking on July 6.”
