Alaska-based Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

ALASKA - Private First Class Nathan Tyler Davis, 20, of Yucaipa, California, died June 9 of injuries from an improvised explosive device.

Enemy forces attacked his Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected vehicle, resulting in his death and wounding three other soldiers.

Davis was assigned to the 1st Battalion (Airborne), 501st Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER).

Davis joined the Army in September 2010, and arrived in Alaska in February 2011. This was his first deployment in Operation Enduring Freedom. The next of kin have been notified, and a memorial will be held at JBER, with the date and time yet to be announced.
