The Alaska Permanent Fund has just topped $40.1 billion.

Officials with the fund announced Tuesday that it is the third highest return, and the largest, since 1986 with a 20.6 percent gain for the recently ended fiscal year.

The gains have come despite a slow economic recovery, unemployment, European debt woes, Japan’s earthquake and political upheaval in the Middle East.

The fund’s stock portfolio comprises roughly half of the permanent fund’s total value.

i agree with sb about the payout option, but i think there should be a minimum residency requirement for that, otherwise we're going to have every person who spends two years in alaska opting for that payout. so say, after 10 years or so you can qualify for the payout option. in addition to the recipients being able to pay off debt or purchase big ticket items, it would also help make purchasing a home more affordable, especially for those who have a lower income. that's also good for the economy. :)

I really don't think we will see any of the PFDs because of the dwarf star Elenin on Sept.27-29th alignment causing huge earth earthquakes and catastrophes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBkuu-Tck6E&feature=related

It's the people that need the money the most that they take it from. Yet..if the state takes it..Where's it going? Pay some court bill? Well if they didn't lock people up for petty stuff. The state would have money. The state waste so much money i makes you sick.

The reason the PFD is going to be lower, is because ole Bumo-Boy & Washington, want a cut this time.

Either we come up with a plan on our own for moving gas and developing minerals and transportation and processing facilities for those minerals. Alaska is a rich state; unless we peddle our wealth inot making more wealth, We will soon have no perm fund and an income tax at the same time.

People of Alaska. Let no gang of politicians get their greasy hands on the permanent funds for anything that it wasn't set up to do or it will be like federal programs that were supposed to be lock boxed. Anybody remember Social Security? Nope to any person or group that wants to pilfer the permanent fund or it will cease to exist.

Plain and simple--easy to understand: Take $10 billion and build a gasline down the permitted corridor to Valdez. We will recover the cost by charging the oil companies transportation costs for usingOUR line, just like they have been charging us for using THEIR line. Plus, we will still have $30 billion in out fund to build on.

They tax us at the pump and give it back as a yearly dividend and we smile. We should be getting a lot more or gas should be tax free like in the gulf states. My opinion.

i think that the pay out that was talked about years ago should be a personal option on the application, just like the college fund. there should be an option yes i want a final pay out or no i do not want a final payout. thoes that choose yew they do cannot recieve the dividend any more and thoes that do not want it can continue to recieve it. I think that thoes that choes yes for the final pay out would pay off debt they owe and purchase big ticket items that would help the local economy.
