According to the District Attorney's office, 33-year-old Sarah Bentley Johnson is currently being arraigned for murder in the death of her three-week-old daughter, Pepper, Wednesday afternoon.

Johnson was taken into custody around midnight last night after she admitted to suffocating her baby with a plastic bag two weeks ago; the baby, Johnson's only child, died Aug. 5.

A friend of the mother reported the crime the following week.

Charging documents indicate that Johnson sent a text message to her sister in Idaho the day after her baby died. The mother wrote that Pepper had died and she didn't want to talk.

Johnson later texted her sister again and wrote that she, her sister and their mother needed to "take this secret to the grave."

The day before three-week-old Pepper died on Aug. 4, Johnson posted on her Facebook page: "Almost every moment of everyday I wish I had made a different choice."

According to charging documents, Johnson stopped taking Prozac, a drug used to treat depression, panic attacks and obsessive-compulsive disorder, during her pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

Family members also told Anchorage police that Johnson was suicidal.

My heart goes out to the family, and Pepper is an Angel once again. Maybe this will have people take a closer look at mental illnesses, Post partum depression in it self can be delapitating. the added stress of unmedicated manic depression, there is a very good chance something like this can happen. Moms like her should not be able to leave the hospital w/baby until they are back on medication. If you are expecting and are taken off your medication during any part of your pregnancy PLEASE do not breat feed, Insist that you restart your meds, and do not take your baby home until your regulated. A formula fed baby that is alive is better than a dead breast fed baby.

How is it women always have to wish they got to kill the kid..rather than taking care of their child????? As much as women brag about how they would manage everything differently...and wars would end......They sure do a lot of killing....compared to their male counterparts.

Mental Health or not, The Issue is that baby suffered and died{Murdered} at the hands that should protect Her...So She was out of PROZAC, This makes that babies DEATH, OK? mental health is as guilty, then...Yes this baby once again is an angel...

why couldnt she have taken the baby someplace so she wouldnt harm it? There are so many who cant have a baby, and then she does this. May God have mercy on her soul. Prozac or not, she is still responsible.

Okay, isn't there a law that people can go to any Fire Dept or any Police Station and drop off a baby without explanation. That's all she had to do. And excuse me - how does she suffocate a baby with a plastic bag and there was no sign at the autopsy?

I'll never understand how a mom can take the life of her own child. If she tried to cover it, she knew exactly what she was doing..makes me sick, women can kill their own child, and get a slap on the back of the hand blaming it on hormones..makes me sick.

This is terrible. Clearly she was not meant to be a mother. The drug thing is no excuse. Poor Pepper. If she didn't know how to take care of the baby she should have at least let someone else take care of her until she got the drug thing worked out. And whatever happened to the father of the baby?

Send her to Spring Creek with Hansen - she admits doing it - stop the tears and emotion - she needs to go - no trial - no nothing - she did it - now she can pay for it. Better yet in these kinds of cases - suffocate her with a plastic bag. A lot of this BS would stop or slow substantially if as Americans we would stop accomodating criminlas - especially those that admit totheir crimes.

Unless you have been through postpartum depression, you can't begin to understand. Don't judge.

Forget the police station or fire department, how about the father? I am sure he would have cared for that baby with love with or without that woman.

The family said the mother was suicidal? Maybe they should be held accountable also, they knew the mother was not stable. Did they try to take care of the baby? Did they call DFYS? And why did the mother not KILL herself instead? Poor child, mother needs to be suffocated with a plastic bag.

No woman in her right mind kills her infant. Mothers who kill their infants are suffering from post partum PSYCHOSIS, a rare and PREVENTABLE form of mental illness. This mother was not in her right mind. Her medical providers took her off her medications and did not set up a system to protect her and her baby. They failed the baby and the mother.

Hmmm...Postpartum depression? DOUBT IT! Someone who has a cover up story planned ahead of time to tell the police isn't mentally ill, they are a cold blooded killer....Someone should put a plastic bag on Sarah's head for 30 minutes and go take a nap, then call 911 and don't even attempt CPR on her. My prayers go out to Peppers father...he would have taken great care of that little girl.
