Alaska Airlines is giving its passengers more than just peanuts and water.
As part of its upcoming 80th anniversary, the airline has created a new program for Alaskans only. It's called Club 49—an exclusive rewards program for residents of the state who have a mileage account with Alaska Airlines. The benefits of becoming a member include two free checked bags for anyone traveling to and from Alaska starting Nov. 1, and two one-way "travel now" 30 percent discounts for travelers who buy a ticket within a four-day window. Club 49 members will also have access to special weekly sales. “We view this as being a long-term program that we will offer for Alaskans hopefully for many years to come. The benefit is really for the residents of Alaska. We want to say thank you to them for the years of support,” said Joe Sprague, vice president of marketing for Alaska Airlines. It's free to join the club and Alaska Airlines says it's not sure how the changes will affect its profits. |
