Flew from California to help with search

ANCHORAGE - A free spirit: That’s how Clinton Reeves' mother, Judy Davis, will always remember her son.

“He was starting a career, and was going to make a career and also a goal to stay with the Air Force, retire and live a normal life,” Davis said.

Davis flew up to Alaska from California, and worked day and night trying to find her only child.

“He wasn't even in combat… a weekend off, looking for a used car,” she said.

On Wednesday, she got the worst news of her life.

“I was still hoping it wasn't him, I was hoping they were wrong, but in the back of my mind, I was preparing for the worst,” she said.

An outcome, she said, that seemed surreal.

“For someone to do that just breaks my heart. I mean it doesn't make any sense. I want answers like everybody else does, as to why,” she said.

Flowers were left on Skyline Drive in Eagle River, near where Reeves' body was found on Tuesday.

Another airman, James Thomas, has been charged with tampering with evidence in connection with Reeves' disappearance.

“You think, your friend that you've been hanging out with every weekend, every day, I mean I don't know, for him to be a suspect, yeah I’m really surprised and shocked, “ she said.

Although her son is gone, Davis says his memory will always live on.

I feel so bad for this mom. She was planning on coming up to spend time with her son & she could never have imagined she would end up dealing with the loss of her son. This Sunday is Mother's Day & she won't even have her son with her to spend it with.

Nothing compares to the death of your child. I extend my heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the family of Airman Reeves. Having lost an adult child, I understand the incredible pain that they are feeling.
