Airline Ticket Price Increase

Prices will now include taxes and fees

By KTVA CBS 11 News

The next time you purchase an airline ticket, you may think it’s costing you more to fly.

Starting Thursday airlines are no longer allowed to advertise prices without adding on government taxes and fees – those fees can add up to $60 on domestic tickets.

On international flights those costs can be even higher. The price of a New York to London flight jumped almost $600 once the fees were applied.

“Most everything we purchase in our everyday lives, that when you see a price, it does not include taxes and fees,” said Allegiant Air President Andrew Levy.

Also under the new rules passengers will be able to hold reservations for 24 hours without payment, or cancel during that period without penalty and baggage fees must be disclosed when you book a ticket.
