Police investigating a double homicide outside a Muldoon bar have made an arrest in the case but say the man in question is not the shooter.

Vang Chang, 29, is a cousin of one of the men who was shot and killed in front of J J’s Lounge early Monday morning.

According to police, Chang took the gun from one of the shooters then fled the scene. As he ran, they say he pointed the gun at a witness who tried to follow him before tossing the weapon away. Chang is now facing several charges, including tampering with evidence and misconduct involving a weapon.

Police have also released the names of the two men killed: 28-year-old Ka Meng Chang and 35-year-old Emilio Ramirez, both of Anchorage.

As for who is responsible for the bloodshed, police say it’s likely there were multiple shooters. Late Tuesday afternoon, police released a name and photo of one of the men they are looking for: 25-year-old Lee Chee Chang. Chang is being called a “person of interest” in the case. Police say trying to track down the multiple suspects and witnesses has been slow going.

“It takes time,” says APD detective Slav Markiewicz. “In some cases when you have everyone accounted for and everyone at the scene you can do it faster. But when people disappear and you have to track them down to get the story out of them, it may take a little bit longer.”

Detectives are also hoping to get a clearer idea of what happened from another victim who remains hospitalized. She is identified as the girlfriend of one of the men that was killed. She was also shot and seriously injured.

One thing police do say is that whatever caused the bloodshed wasn’t planned. An exchange between a group of men playing pool and two regulars at the bar led to the violence outside. Police add there is no reason for the public to be afraid.
