EKLUTNA—Anchorage police investigated on Tuesday evening what appeared to be human remains on Eklutna Lake Road, which was closed for six hours during the death investigation.

A snow-shoer spotted the remains and called police at about 5 p.m., said APD spokesperson Lieutenant Dave Parker, who said it’s unclear whether foul play was suspected in the death.

"He [snow-shoer] told me when he went by the body, the first time, he really didn't notice it and he thought it might be an animal carcass, but then he took a closer look and realized it was human," said Parker.

As of last night police were unable to determine if the remains were that of a male or female, but as of Wednesday morning it has been confired the remains are male.

Shouldnt they be able to tell if its a 18year old girl, or an older person? Even just if its a male or female

No reason to release preliminary details, Meg. What good would that do?

Lt. Dave Parker says it's unclear. APD needs to get a PR person who can actually compose and utter meaningful sentences. That's what a spokesperson IS - public communication. Why bother with that position, if they can't get someone who can think of things to say? How about: "We are beginning an investigation. We don't have any facts right now. We plan to have more to say at 7 am..." Or: "APD will not be providing information to the public until we know more." Or: "At this time, we will not be releasing statements to the public on whether or not this is related to any other on-going investigation." Or simply: "We do not know right now. A press conference is scheduled for noon tomorrow."

Lt. Dave Parker says "it's unclear. APD needs to get a PR person who can actually compose and utter meaningful sentences." Is he saying he can not compose or utter a meaningful sentence? Wait that is exactly what he said........ I agree, release the basic information on what was found. Male or female, clothing, location, etc. But only release the immediate facts, not approximate things like ages. Then if you want to tell us that it is unclear at this time if it is related to any other on-going investigations, then OK, reasonable enough There is no reason to withhold this information to the general public for ANY length of time. The LT should have released it when the news contacted him. But we can wait for a PR person to utter something meaningful, instead of asking Lt Dave Parker to do it.

Hey Guest, Is your job law enforcement or might you be a an English major? Or are you bored? Maybe they shouldn't release an information at all about anything and everything.
