Anchorage police officers cited nearly 150 drivers in the past year for driving at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.

At the police sub-station in Eagle River, every time a driver is cited for going that fast, the report goes up on the wall of shame.

APD says in 2011 officers issued 148 citations to people who hit 100-plus on the roadways.

The traffic enforcement supervisor says those who drive that fast are dangerous to everyone on the roadways.

“It is hazardous for the officers,” says Sergeant Justin Doll of the Traffic Enforcement Unit. “We want them to get that person stopped as quickly as they can and not have those speeding progress for any length of time on the highway because it’s a safety factor. That’s the whole reason we do speed enforcement.”

A motorcyclist was caught speeding at 150 miles an hour. Police say he was the fastest of the year. Police are asking everyone to report dangerous drivers.

SPEEDERS IF THEY CRASH said on Thursday, Dec 22 at 12:16 PM

and no other car involved,( like hitting a tree, going off a cliff, hitting the side of a barrier, etc. JUST leave them on their own.Let them lay in their miserable driving mistakes, knowing they did this to themselves. PEOPLE like these cause too many deaths, accidents, and too many innocent people get injured. It should be a FELONY!

The Glenn is an interesting road. As an interstate quality highway, it can support speeds of 80 mph on a good day. On a bad day, it becomes insanely dangerous, as it simply cannot handle the volume of traffic south of Birchwood. Add in slippery roads and the speed issue becomes a lethal one. I have had several occasions of people playing 'high speed tag', weaving in and out and cutting off other cars. I'm talking about driving 75 and they go by like I'm parked. Half the time it's trucks and suv type rigs, and 90% of the time it's young male drivers. Hate to stereotype but.... The irony is that I hit a deer in another state one time, and the cop who showed up stated he was glad he wasn't on his bike, because "I come through this stretch about 95 all the time on my (Kawasaki) Ninja..." Wonder how many 100mph stops here get a pass because of the badge connection?

"Laws don't apply to me!" Yep, but after playing the fool, everyone is supposed to rush and help them, maybe cut them out of their car or scrap them off the pavement.

Speeding over 100 mph should be made a felony. That'll make it hurt when they get caught. Where are the police? I never see them on the road. There are too many dangerous drivers - and not just the drugged and drunk- on the road and I'm sick and tired of them not getting caught.

BIG SUPRISE? said on Saturday, Dec 17 at 12:39 PM

After years of lethargic law enforcement, it should be no suprise that at any given time a reckless driver can be pulled over. Its too late, dont reward them for years of neglect. Replace them with unemployed combat veterans who would love to make $200,000.00 a year.
