An Economic Impact Study was recently completed, at the request of Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC).
The study was led by the Anchorage Economic Development Corporation (AEDC), in conjunction with the McDowell Group.
The airport produces more than 9,000 jobs directly, and puts $8 out of every $10 back into Alaska’s businesses, according to the study.
Construction and infrastructure projects, brought on by ANC, provided 1,000 jobs and $54 million dollars in earnings.
ANC, which is self-supporting, provides $101.2 million in operating and investment revenues for the International Airport Fund.
50,000 flights that land at ANC are passenger planes, while 86,000 landing flights are cargo. 71 percent of cargo heading to Asia transits through ANC and 82 percent of cargo leaving Asia and heading for the U.S. lands at ANC.
“As an international airport heavily weighted in cargo activity, ANC is a barometer of the national and global economy,” stated ANC Airport Manager John Parrott, in a press release.
