ADN Responds To Mayor's Accusations

Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan accuses ADN reporter of making inaccurate assumptions about his stance on homeless protester

From ADN:

In response to the mayor's point about our story describing him as "peeved," I think his criticism is fair. Our story made an assumption about his feelings about the man on the sidewalk that, whether accurate or not, we shouldn't have made. It's no excuse but the reporter did try to ask the mayor about it directly, but couldn't get through to him.

I have to note that Mayor Sullivan's assumption about who put what in the story is actually wrong, which simply reinforces the point that making assumptions is seldom a good idea.

Maybe the reporter didn't have the proper clothes on or was wearing a brand of perfume the mayor doesn't like? That's my assumption as to why a public servant couldn't be bothered to answer what is undoubtedly a few tough questions.

ADN is NOT a true media source. It is a form of opinion and entertainment. Nothing more.

How many people can be arrested for sitting in protest?

The government is deciding when you can voice your opinion about it. Are we really asking permission to protest?

I like Dan Sulivan but this time he is dead wrong. People have the right to sit where they want (outside the silly) this is a free country and we are free to protest as well.

So how does a homeless sex offender register his location when he cannot "camp" somewhere?

i don't own a home or make a lot of money, but i work two jobs to make it, and i'm proud of the work i do because i am able to live independently without assistance. i support sullivan, because i think he just wants everyone to realize that people have more potential to be better and do better for themselves and their community than what they think. just because he may be better off financially than me or others doesn't mean he looks down on us. however, i have noticed a lot of people who are less financially blessed looking down on those who are finanically well off. not sure how that double standard is acceptable, simply because it's coming from someone with little resources.

Call a spade a spade. Sullivan belongs to the club of "if you don't have fifty grand in your savings account, you are beneath me". He was arrogant and rude. That's the simple facts of the matter.
