Two Anchorage homeless men have been arrested for robbing the Rural Alaska Community Action Program offices, also known as RurAL CAP, and police say they are still trying to recover three laptops taken during the break-in.

The burglary was first discovered Monday. The next day, a RurAL CAP employee called police again when the same two suspects –captured on office security cameras— were spotted walking down Gambell Street around 1 p.m.

Daniel Davis, 52, and John Smart, 48, were both detained for questioning. Detectives found Smart in possession of burglary tools and both men were arrested and charged with second-degree burglary and theft.

"It doesn't happen like this a lot. This was an unusual circumstance and I feel that they felt that they were not going to get caught; they felt invulnerable, possibly," said APD detective Ron Tidler.

If you have any information about the burglary or the missing laptops, you can call Anchorage police at 786-8900, or to remain anonymous and become eligible for a cash reward, call Anchorage Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP.

Many of these so called "POOR" homeless bums, are nothing but con artist. Too DA- lazy to work, so if they don't get the hand outs they feel they are "ENTITLED" to they resort to robbery.Give the bums a permanent home in prison for about 25 years, they will be off the streets & have "FREE" room and board, just like they expected.Bunch of "LAZY" leeches on society!

Lazy as in making comments on a local news stations poor excuse for news. I think you "West" are putting yourself on a pedestal. I think you need to spend 3 cold months on the street. Then you can tell me all about it.

How sorry do you feel towards the homeless? Some do have mental problems, the biggest mental problem they have is laziness, the dont want a job as longs as others feel sorry and give them handouts. People like these creeps your trying to help them out and find them a home and food to eat. Quit trying to make others feel guilty for what they have put themselves into. Glad the beggars got caught. No sympathy from me.
