Two Anchorage homeless men have been arrested for robbing the Rural Alaska Community Action Program offices, also known as RurAL CAP, and police say they are still trying to recover three laptops taken during the break-in.
The burglary was first discovered Monday. The next day, a RurAL CAP employee called police again when the same two suspects –captured on office security cameras— were spotted walking down Gambell Street around 1 p.m.
Daniel Davis, 52, and John Smart, 48, were both detained for questioning. Detectives found Smart in possession of burglary tools and both men were arrested and charged with second-degree burglary and theft.
"It doesn't happen like this a lot. This was an unusual circumstance and I feel that they felt that they were not going to get caught; they felt invulnerable, possibly," said APD detective Ron Tidler.
