Trailside Students Say Thank You To Anchorage First Responders
Students deliver cards, perform holiday songs

ANCHORAGE - Well before the tragedy in Connecticut occurred Friday, students from Trailside Elementary were preparing a holiday "thank you" for Anchorage first responders.
Since November, Trailside students have worked with their teachers and the American Red Cross to write holiday "thank you" cards for Anchorage firefighters and police officers.
Those cards were hand delivered this morning, and presented by the student choir, who also sang several holiday-themed songs.
“We've been practicing since November,” said fourth grader Dulcy Morris. She said the choir “had to go in whenever [they] could,” to practice their holiday songs, “and it’s meant a lot to us, and we had to bring all of our talents out” for the performance.
Students talked with firefighters, looked on eagerly at equipment on display, and smiled as Captain Bryan Grella demonstrated the fire pole.
“I’ve never had this experience in almost 20 years being in the Anchorage Fire Department,” Grella said. “Christmas… can be a stressful time of year for us,” he added. “It’s really touching, it’s really nice.”
As her classmates wore plastic red fire helmets and toured the station, Dulcy Morris beamed with happiness. “We're trying to say thank you for all you guys have been doing,” she said. “We appreciate that you've been keeping our country safe.”
