ANCHORAGE - A local organization for kids is looking to expand its programs in a new facility and is asking the state for two million dollars to help with the project.

Right now AK PRIDE has almost a dozen programs around Anchorage, some of which just moved into a few small spaces at the Northway Mall. Founder Ma'o Tosi said he’d like to see one large facility where kids could come for art, dance and athletics.

His organization has partnered with Kaladi Brothers to make the dream a reality and the new place would be called the Kaladi Center of Pride.

Tosi said the center is all about making connections with the community to help kids have a brighter future.

“What we're seeing is there really is a need on the Northeast Anchorage side to have a facility like this but it should be used by the whole state. There are more partnerships that need to be developed but we're really thankful to have Kaladi Brothers on board and a few other local businesses as well,” said Tosi.

He’s optimistic the project will be in full swing by July 2013.

A great local organization, coupled with my favorite local coffee house.
