ANCHORAGE, AK – Providence Alaska Medical Center is a recipient of the 2010 Quality Achievement Award presented by Mountain-Pacific Quality Health. The award was presented during the Alaska State Hospital & Nursing Home Association (ASHNHA) annual conference.

Mountain-Pacific recognizes hospitals throughout Alaska, Montana, Wyoming, and Hawaii that are outstanding in their dedication to quality care, especially in the clinical areas of heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and preventing surgical infection. The Quality Achievement Award is the highest award given out by Mountain-Pacific.

“High-quality health care is our No. 1 priority at Providence Alaska Medical Center,” said Bruce Lamoureux, chief operating officer at Providence Health & Services Alaska. “This achievement recognized by Mountain Pacific Quality Health is the result of the dedication and hard work of all our employees. Alaskans can be confident that Providence meets high standards of excellence in patient care.”

Hospitals were chosen based on review of performance data submitted to the QIO Clinical Warehouse. To be eligible for the Quality Achievement Award, hospitals must reach one of the two criteria:
  • An 85 percent performance composite score for the most recent quarter of data locked down in the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) Clinical Warehouse as of Aug. 15, 2010
  • Sustain a 90 percent or higher performance rate for the most recent six month period in 18 or more of the 28 quality indicators for the most recent quarter of data locked down in the QIO Clinical Warehouse as of Aug. 15, 2010.

Mountain-Pacific serves the citizens and health care communities of Montana, Wyoming, Hawaii, and Alaska. Its mission is to promote excellence in health care through review, education, communication, collaboration and partnership. All Alaska hospitals are eligible to apply for Hospital Quality Awards. Award-winning hospitals range from small rural hospitals to large urban hospitals.
