Story Updated: Oct 4, 2011

The Municipality of Anchorage has launched a program to help provide residents with some relief from the high cost of prescription medications. Through the program, sponsored by the National League of Cities, the Municipality is offering free prescription discount cards that provide city residents an average of 23 percent savings off the retail price of prescription medications. The NLC Prescription Discount Card has no restrictions based on age, income level or existing health coverage. The card can be used at about 40 pharmacies around Anchorage and more than 60,000 participating pharmacies across the country.

Residents can obtain discount cards at pharmacies throughout Anchorage. CVS Caremark administers the program and a card is available to print at www.caremark.com/nlc. Residents can also call toll-free at 1-888-620-1749.
