From home builders to mill workers, “Working: The Musical” showcases multiple jobs, and what those workers like and don’t like about their occupation. It’s based off of a book called “Working” by Studs Terkel in 1972, according to the first copyright. It was adapted into a musical play a few years later, with lyrics by Stephen Schwartz.
According to Andy King, one of the cast members of the play, the message is still relevant today as it was in the 70s.
“Everybody works, everybody has got something to work for, and everybody wants to feel proud of what they’re working at, what they do and what they accomplish,” King said Another cast member, Edward Washington added that it the production shows more empathy for everyone, during a divisive time.
It’s coming to Anchorage this weekend to the University of Alaska Anchorage’s Mainstage Theatre. The show starts its run Feb. 10 and runs until the 26th. Tickets can be purchased at ArtsUAA.com.
