Spring is in the air and it looks like we are finally done with the snow.

Hopefully so, for golfers.
Alaska's golf season is short enough as it is.

"It's like people are just waiting and waiting for the snow to go, so they can come out and hit a few," said the owner of The Golf Range, Jim Bruckman.

But when Anchorage got dumped on with nearly two feet of snow, the season, not to mention golfers' patience, grew even shorter.

"We were still getting calls when we had a foot of snow, 'Are you ready to open yet? Are you ready to open yet?' Everybody was just so sad. It was like we had three break ups this year," said Bruckman.

Those blasts of winter have pushed the open of The Golf Range in Anchorage

into May, making it the latest open ever. But the good news is, the machines are humming and the balls are rolling. Spring appears to have officially sprung; and golfers are grateful.

"I just live for days like this...absolutely live for it," said golfer, Shane DeRizzo.

"Been waiting for a long time to get out. This winter was getting a little long," said golfer, Bill Durland.

"We'd go out in the garage and swing the clubs a little bit. But it's nothing like being out here," said Dermmell Reed, who is out of golf hibernation.

Now that the snow is gone and the days are getting longer, it's a perfect time to get out with the entire family. We usually think of golf for retirees, but how about babies? One little guy CBS 11 News met has been learning to swing a club since he started walking a few months ago. There are no expectations now, but his dad has a plan--just in case.

"If he starts hitting it further than me, I'll get an agent," said Reed.

So if you are looking for a new sport to try out as we warm up, you'll find it out on the range.
