We're getting late in the season, but there's still some snow out there to enjoy. So we went out with Horse Trekkin Alaska and took a sleigh ride.
Don't send winter fun packing just yet. A sleigh ride is the perfect late winter adventure. Ruth Arcand Park is home to Horse Trekkin Alaska where it's all about the horses...
...and taking a step back in time.
"I think it's the nostalgia. You know, the Christmas songs," said Steve Steenmeyer of Horse Trekkin Alaska.
"I started sleigh rides cause I was looking for the older crowd to come
up. The ones that still had nostalgia or came from a farm where they had draft horses. And, of course, they bring their grandkids. It's just a great way for the whole family to get out," said Steenmeyer. If sitting and relaxing isn't enough for you, you can give it a shot steering the horses.
You can make it a fun and social outing for the family, or a romantic get away.
"We've had a number of guys take their favorite gal out and propose to her out on the sleigh. We always hope it's accepted, otherwise it'd be a pretty quiet ride coming back," said Steenmeyer.
After a ride, it's time to head into the cabin and warm up!
The experience is made even better with a cup of hot cocoa and a toasty little cabin to chat in before heading out. So get out and take a sleigh ride, before winter makes its exit.
Steenmeyer says they can usually do sleigh rides into early April, so there's still time.
