Stephen Gingrich discovered dead in his home
ANCHORAGE – Family and friends of Stephen Gingrich finally have the answers they’ve been looking for.
Gingrich was reported missing nearly a month ago. Thursday the 58-year-old was discovered dead in his home after being pinned by a heavy concrete slab while renovating his crawl space, police said.
Although his home had initially been searched after he was reported missing, his body was hidden from view until his brother found him.
It’s been a hard day for those who knew him. Gingrich is remembered for his involvement with the LGBT community and local Democratic Party.
To many, he was a community figure.
What friends said they will miss most is his kindness. He was quiet, unassuming and always doing things for other people, they said.
“I thought that I was fine because I felt like I had accepted it a few days ago, well a month ago, but you can see that right now I’m missing him and feeling bad for all the people that lost him too,” said Mel Green, Gingrich’s friend.
Anchorage Police said Gingrich’s body is still trapped in his home. The fire department is coming up with a plan to safely recover him.
