A former University of Alaska Anchorage Seawolves hockey player has signed a contract with the Alaska Aces, the team announced Saturday.
Rob Murray, the Aces’ head coach and president of hockey operations, announced the contract for 24-year-old defenseman Chase Van Allen. Van Allen will be wearing jersey 2 when he plays with the team in Utah Saturday night, according to a statement on the team’s website.
The team has nearly 20 games left to play this season, which is slated to be its last in Anchorage. The team’s owners announced operations would cease at the end of the season, but it’s still not clear whether the team would be disbanded or sold and moved to another city.
Van Allen, an Anchorage native, played hockey for Service High School. He has skated for two seasons with the Alaska Avalanche in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) and four seasons with UAA, according to the Aces statement. He scored eight goals with 36 assists for a total of 44 points and also had 91 penalty minutes while with UAA.
