Someone driving by reported smoke and flames coming from the roof of a west Anchorage home
Update: Friday, 6 p.m.
Firefighters credit a passerby for saving a west Anchorage home from fire Friday.
Crews responded to the Turnagain home at the intersection of Milky Way and Orion around 3:30 p.m. Someone driving by reported smoke and flames coming from the roof.
Firefighters said it looked like a bathroom exhaust fan malfunctioned, starting the fire. They got it under control quickly and the home was not badly damaged. If they had arrived any later, however, it would be a different story, they said.
“Another three or four minutes and this thing would have been up into the roof, going really well and we would have had an attic fire, probably burned the roof off so a quick response by not only us but also the passerby,” said Cpt. Richard Minkler.
No one was hurt in the fire. The owners weren’t home and people can still live there, firefighters said.
ANCHORAGE – A fire was reported Friday afternoon at a home in west Anchorage.
Firefighters are at 3446 Orion Cir. working to put out the blaze. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, as well as whether or not anyone was in the home, AFD said around 3 p.m. The home is located near Balto Seppala Park.
This is a developing story.
