ANCHORAGE –

A deadly crash closed the Seward Highway near Girdwood Wednesday evening.

The one-vehicle crash near Mile 88 killed Margie Thompson, 34, of Wasilla and injured John William Martin, 42, of Anchorage, said Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters.

It was reported to authorities shortly before 8:30 p.m., when troopers said a northbound Chevy van carrying two people crossed the southbound lane and struck a guardrail. According to AST dispatch, Thompson was ejected in the crash and was pronounced dead after the vehicle overturned and landed on her.

The investigation is ongoing, troopers said.
