The family of a student who wore a hidden microphone to obtain the purported sex-abuse confession of a tutor has filed a lawsuit against the student’s school district.
The suit filed Friday claims that the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District failed to protect the student from the tutor, a district employee. The suit claims the district should have identified warning signs.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports (http://bit.ly/1lfsUIa ) the suit seeks at least $200,000 for each incident of abuse, as well as unspecified punitive damages.
The lawsuit doesn’t name anyone but the district itself. But it says a former district superintendent knew the abuse was taking place and failed to act.
The tutor, Claude Fowlkes III, faces seven counts of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor.
