The project has a $117 million budget
JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) – The state anticipates awarding a construction contract for the new Alaska Class Ferry this summer.
KTOO reports (http://bit.ly/1fRvJLf) that the final design for the new ferry concept should be completed by the end of this month.
Department of Transportation Deputy Commissioner Reuben Yost says the state has preliminary estimates from Alaska Ship and Dry dock in Ketchikan and Elliott Bay Design Group of Seattle.
Yost says if the shipyard and architect are close on the final estimate, the ferries will be built in Ketchikan.
Yost said the most important thing is for the project to stay within its $117 million budget.
