The search continues for who ever is responsible for the murder of a 17-year-old girl Sunday morning. Police say Desirae Douglas was shot and killed just after 2 am Sunday. A burst of shots fired from a vehicles struck Douglas during a party at the 8000 block of East 36th Avenue in South Muldoon. During the course of the night, Police got several complaints about a loud party in the area.

Lieutenant Dave Parker with the Anchorage Police Department said, "There's no indication from the evidence at hand that this girl who was ultimately the victim of the homicide was targeted."

Right now, police say they don't have any suspects and the investigation is ongoing.

The latest homicide has neighbors blaming police. Neighbors who complained to police about the party, say this all could have been prevented if police had responded sooner.

The first call to police was made just before 1am Sunday for the loud party. More calls were made, but police didn't respond until a 911 call about shots fired came in over an hour later, at 2:14 am.

Anchorage Police Department's Lt. Dave Parker responded, "From the perspective of the citizens next door, I can understand how they would look at this situation, saying 'well it sure took the police a long time to get here because I called it a little before one o'clock and they actually didn't show up till after the shots were fired,' well they don't understand what other things the officer's are involved in doing."

other things, were handling almost 230 other calls for police assistance.

"In addition to that, we have officer initiated activity, which is things like an officer sees and open door, in a business, they initiate the activity, that didn't come in as a call but an officer needs to do something. Or you see a DUI which we had some being processed during that time too," explained Lieutenant Parker.

Police say they were tied up with calls that took higher priority throughout the night up until 2:15 am Sunday, calls like two assaults with weapons, and two sexual assaults that police were called to during that time.

Lt. Parker added, "There were also several other assaults that had taken place, so the loud party priority is lower than those other priorities."

Police go on to say they handled calls for seven other parties, but things changed when shots were fired, in Muldoon.

Police say as soon as the shot fired call came out, they had officers that were breaking from all over town, even from Eagle River, coming in to handle the call.

Police say it's about prioritizing the urgency of the call, "Just to give you an example, a homicide or a shots fired call with injuries, accident with injuries, that would be a very high priority call, like a one. Whereas we have just a loud party call it comes in as a six,

Lt. Parker of APD explained, "No matter how many people you have on a police Department and active at any given time, you're still going to have times when you are busier than other times and when you cannot get to the lower priority calls until later on. It's just the nature of police work."
