Company seeks to build large dock in Bethel

By Associated Press 9:14 AM March 12, 2014

Knik Construction has filed an application for the project with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

BETHEL, Alaska (AP) – A company wants to build a large dock at its Kuskokwim River landing downriver of the Bethel port.

Knik Construction has filed an application for the project with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

KYUK (http://is.gd/qjqy0T) says the city of Bethel is opposed to the plans, saying the main channel would be obstructed.

Company official Dan Hall says the dock would actually improve the navigation channel because the company would not have to bring barges in perpendicular to the shore.

The Corps of Engineers is accepting comments on the project until March 19.
