Coast Guard finds 3 overdue boaters

By KTVA CBS 11 News 12:02 PM August 5, 2014
ANCHORAGE –

The U.S. Coast Guard was able to locate three Anchorage men who were overdue from a fishing trip in Prince William Sound.

The men were unable to return from their two-day fishing trip that started Saturday when the 24-foot Bayliner they were aboard experienced engine problems.

An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew found 40-year-old John Dimmick, 28-year-old Mark Valdez and 25-year-old Cory Bicchinella in Lower Passage on the north side of Knight Island, the Coast Guard said in a release. No injuries were reported.

The men had not filed a float plan, said Petty Officer 3rd Class Diana Honings. The Coast Guard recommends boaters tell friends and family about their planned routes, travel dates and safety and communications gear aboard their vessel.
