Update: The U.S. Coast Guard said the search for missing houseboat owner John Anderson was called off Thursday after crews covered 86 square miles over 27 hours.
ANCHORAGE – The U.S. Coast Guard is continuing a search Wednesday for a houseboat owner in the Tongass Narrows near Ketchikan.
The Coast Guard received a report from Ketchikan police that 40-foot houseboat Diver III was “dangerously close to a break wall,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Grant DeVuyst.
After determining the houseboat had been recently occupied, officials began searching for houseboat owner John Anderson in the water, DeVuyst said.
A boat crew initiated the search and a helicopter crew joined Wednesday at sunrise.
Anyone with information regarding Anderson’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Sector Juneau command center at 463-2980.
