The wet and cool weather has put a damper on some of our outdoor plans this summer. But there is still plenty you can do to stay dry and active.

If you want to try rock climbing, but the weather won't cooperate, just head over to the Alaska Rock Gym. CBS 11 News joined a class of newbies who, with a little guidance, were rocking the wall in no time.

"I have quit other sports. And I just keep coming back to this sport every time," said competitive climber, Hannah Hilowitz.

Hilowitz started climbing when she was 12-years-old and, with lots of determination, has climbed her way up to number 19 in the country.

"A lot of it is pushing yourself to new limits. And if there's a hard move or a scary fall, you just have to push

your mind through it, push yourself through it. It's a good mental game for every sport," said Hilowitz.

It's also a full body workout. The gym houses a workout area with weights, rope climbing and—the ever more popular—rope-free bouldering. With bouldering, it's not all about moving up. It's about hanging on.

So come learn the ropes, build a stronger body and have a blast doing it—even if you do prefer having your feet on the ground...

"If you're scared of heights, just get over it. Just have fun. Just don't look down," said Hilowitz.

If you've never done rock climbing, beginner lessons are every Monday and Wednesday night starting at 7 p.m. The cost is 10 dollars. For more information, click below:
