Heavy snow and rising temperatures have led to hazardous avalanche conditions in Southcentral Alaska.

The Chugach National Forest Avalanche Information Center issued a general backcountry avalanche advisory Monday for the Turnagain Arm. Rapidly rising temperatures combined with heavy new snowfall have destabilized terrain.

The center warns that natural avalanches are likely and human-triggered avalanches are very likely.

Expect widespread "medium to large" avalanches in the Turnagain Pass area today.

Backcountry travel is not recommended.
