Obama announces Alaska visit schedule

The President will speak at Elmendorf Air Force Base on a stopover en route to Japan

On Thursday November 12, 2009, President Obama will travel to Elmendorf Air Force Base near Anchorage, Alaska to meet with service members and offer remarks to the Elmendorf AFB community. He will then travel to Tokyo, Japan.

President Obama is scheduled by Air Force One at 12:50 p.m.

He will speak to Elmendorf Air Force Base troops at 1:30. The event is closed to the public.

When I think of what the word sacrafice means, I think of voluntarily giving up something important to me for the benefit of someone else. There are different ways to sacrafice and for different causes we may feel are important. However, the association I have experienced being around military famililes has demonstrated to me an unselfish sacrafice of their time, their talents and their means to support and depend our country, which allows me to be free. It reminds me of something I have read many years ago. "No greater love hath anyman, than he who lays down his life for his friends." These fine men and their families have paid the utlimate sacrafice. They have given their lives practicing to bring thousands entertainment and enjoyment. May their loves ones know that we feel their loss and cherish the work that they were doing and pray for their comfort and peace. We are the land of the free because of our brave. my heart goes out to the families of those lost in this tragedy. My personal opinion is that the air show should be postpned, but I understand that logistics involved and can understand the decision. Just goes to show that danger is ever present in the armed forces whether it be on deployment or at home and that those serving their nations (yes I include every member of every armed force througout the world) are not paid enough for the jobs that they do. Lets hope that the families of all Defence Personnel are shown the respect they deserve.7/29/10 9:26 PM

Appreciate your clarification, and am sure that intelligent people everywhere, whether gay or straight, appreciate it, myself included. Having just read your earlier comment which perhaps stupid people cannot see, or those who speak poor English, but I can also readily see how it is that someone could -and did- draw such a conclusion from your statement; namely, in light of the comment to which you responded and your specific choice of words, that gays are unpatriotic and psycho, as many of your "tea party" say expressly or imply. It is wonderful to hear that you do not feel this way, a slip of the tongue and an accident perhaps - I know, things shoot off fast online, and sometimes people say things without thinking, not intending what their words say or imply. I personally thank you, and sure that all LGBT and others who may have read your words as such in this vein, appreciate that you took the time to clarify: thank you, for what it's worth, though I myself am not gay, and agree totally with you as to the impropriety as to any conspiracy theories or otherwise on this particular board at this time (for the record, I am jewish and always on high alert for conspiracy theories, heh, like you, when it comes to Frank, also don't see one out of respect for the airmen and their families, also agree with you that it's wrong). Purely an accident and slip of the tongue, I am sure, and no slight or offense intended on your part, and wonderful to hear. Perhaps Frank might take a lesson from you in turn (he could learn a lot, in light of your clarification, and I mean that sincerely). Why would a gay or lesbian person be offended by my comment? I'm pretty sure if you read my comment you would realize that I was stating that this set of posts should be to honor the families and friends of the wonderful men and women killed. Instead frank thought that it was appropriate to blast politics and his psychotic view into it. I have gay and lesbian friends and this wouldn't bother them, perhaps it does offend stupid gay and lesbian people, but not ones that know how to read and understand english. Anyway, my post was not meant to offend anyone, including frank, despite the name. It was meant to prove a point that this isn't the correct forum to blab about conspiracies.7/29/10 8:52 PM
