  • guest - Muni Contract Crisis Appears Amid Legal Questions - KTVA

If you aren't installing a subdivision nor erecting an edifice of concrete in south anchorage it is likely you are not paying the market prices of the "labor, market-priced contracts" since you are not purchasing permits. So, don't buy any building permits and you should be fine. On the other hand, if you desire to be priviliged to install a permanent public facility taking full advantage of Alaska's light and paint choices, the community of Anchorage would like you to adhere to best installations practices and the minimum adopted by the state and local government safety building codes for best results; so would your financial institution(s). We like to make sure that minimum safety codes as adopted by the state of alaska and the municipality of anchorage are actually installed. This enforcement mission, i suppose cannot be free or even cheap, or the enforcement be made to vanish for safety sake. The market indicates the "prices". Have a very safe day of good investments - real estate and otherwise.

  • guest - Assembly members react to city attorney\'s findings - KTVA

Let's go with ONLY electing CPA's on the Anchorage local governing body. That way we will ensure that the correct financial questions get asked and internal financial controls will NOT be abandoned as I believe they significantly have been abandoned by those who are not CPA's under administrations previous to Begich. We would have a distinctly different city if ONLY CPA's were seated as representatives. Unfortunately, the bean counters won't run AND they would take the work product of attorney's with a healthy grain of "salt" unlike some of our current interested parties who do not have the discipline to prepare for nor sit for a CPA exam and licensure procedures. More's the pity.

  • guest - Hundreds of birds seem to mourn deaths of fellow ravens in Fairbanks - KTVA

Birds in the wild may "know" each other as individuals. Of course they do. They are social creatures. Other similar birds like stellar jays and magpies know and live near their parents for great lengths of time and know which individuals were this year's young birds etc. It may have been the grandparents of the clan. Birds interact with each other all the time. When one loses its mate the other calls for it. They communicate all the time if a bird of prey is near. They will drive off a bird that is dangerous to them. Birds have personalities too. Very interesting.
