Police have identified the body of a man found in the woods of Muldoon near Fort Richardson as that of 45-year-old Jefferson Otei, who was reported missing Fri., Oct. 30, afternoon after he left behind a suicide note.

His girlfriend told police Otei had been distraught over a pending criminal case.

Police did try to find Otei on Saturday, but were unsuccessful locating him.

On Sunday afternoon, a group of people, including family members, found Otei's body and started a small fire to help officials locate the body.

The fire was extinguished as crews arrived on the scene.

Police said Otei most likely died of hypothermia but it may be weeks before lab reports can confirm that.
