There’s still time to catch Tony Award-winning musical “Billy Elliot” this weekend in Anchorage. The show is based on an English film of the same name. It’s set in the mid-1980s during the UK coal miners’ strike. Billy, 11, wants to become a ballet dancer — an aspiration that comes with a negative stereotype.
“The show is all about kind of following your dreams and being who you want to be and being yourself,” said Braden King, who plays Billy.
The musical follows a similar storyline to the film and includes music by pop star Elton John.
“Billy Elliot the Musical” runs until Feb. 19 in Anchorage. The show is recommended for audience members 12 years of age and older. Tickets can be purchased at CenterTix.
