Couple flown to a hospital in Anchorage to be treated
FAIRBANKS – Alaska State Troopers say a Cantwell couple has been rescued separately after the woman set out to go for help when her husband did not return from checking his trap line.
Troopers say 56-year-old Vivian Mayo was found first by a wildlife trooper involved in the search early Wednesday near mile 105 of the Denali Highway. According to troopers, the woman was suffering from what appeared to be extreme hypothermia when she was found in temperatures of around 20 degrees below zero.
According to troopers, 47-year-old Scott Mayo was found shortly after 5 a.m. Wednesday.
The search involved a Rescue Coordination Center helicopter and C-130, as well as a ground search by snowmobile by the trooper.
