Expect to see a lot of Alex's Lemonade Stand's popping up around Anchorage this summer. In 2000, Alex Scott, a four-year-old Philadelphia girl who battled childhood cancer since she was one-year-old, started her own lemonade stand to raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer causes, research and treatments.
Although she lost her battle in 2004, Alaskan Carhartt Women for Humanity members say their lemonade stand help's Alex's memory and cause live on.
"Alex died when she was eight-years-old. But her fundraising lemonade stands have gone on. And the sweet little spirit of that little girl is still with
everybody, as long as she's in our hearts," said Jody Robinson of Alaskan Carhartt Women for Humanity. There's another one Monday (June 11) at Henry's Restaurant, on Old Seward just north of Dimond. If you want more information on Alex's Lemonade Stand, you can got to: www.alexslemonade.org
