Loddie “Ayaprun” Jones, who teaches kindergarten at Bethel’s Yup’ik immersion school, was a featured guest on May 10th’s Frontiers.
Jones, who will soon turn 68, is passionate about teaching children Yup’ik. And in this KTVA Web Extra, you can get a taste of that.
She sits down with Rhonda McBride, host of Frontiers, and gives her some lessons in Yup’ik, much in the same way she teaches her kindergartners.
Most of children who attend the Bethel school come from English speaking homes, and in Ayaprun’s class only Yup’ik is spoken. She shares some of the materials she use to teach Yup’ik, including the children’s book she wrote called “Wiinga,” which means “I” or “me.”
Even if you don’t speak Yup’ik, Ayaprun will keep you entertained in this engaging Yup’ik 101 interview.
