Justin and Jaimee High of Willow are beginning a new chapter. The two rebuilt their home after losing it to the Sockeye Wildfire in June.
The rebuilding effort among many in Willow comes as fire officials are predicting an early wildfire season for the upcoming summer. Safety experts say the Southcentral region of the state is warmer than normal and fire activity will most likely pick up in April and May. In fact, burn permits in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough are required beginning April 1.
In this web extra, Doug Albrecht with the Alaska Division of Forestry and Bill Gamble, director of the Mat-Su Department of Emergency Services talks about what homeowners can do to keep their homes and property safe.
The full Frontiers program, A New Chapter, airs Sunday, March 13 at 4:30 and 10:30 p.m. on KTVA Channel 11.
