Bicyclist dies after being hit by car in midtown

The bicyclist was traveling south across Northern Lights Boulevard when he was hit in the middle lane by a gray Subaru heading west, just past Minnesota Drive

Update, 4:30 p.m. Thursday

The bicyclist who was struck by a vehicle Thursday afternoon was pronounced dead at a local hospital, according to a statement from police.

APD dispatch received word of the collision shortly before 3 p.m. When police and medics arrived on the scene, the bicyclist was unconscious.

Police were told that the bicyclist was traveling south across Northern Lights Boulevard when he was hit in the middle lane by a gray Subaru heading west, just past Minnesota Drive, the statement said.

The accident is under investigation.

ANCHORAGE – Police are at the scene of an accident just west of the Northern Lights Boulevard and Minnesota Drive intersection near the Dempsey Anderson Ice Arena.

The bicyclist has been transported to the hospital, according to police. There are no details yet on the extent of injures.

Only one lane is open on westbound Northern Lights Boulevard between Minnesota Drive and Lois Drive, police said at around 3:30 p.m.
