University officials say the new center will provide a community venue for everything from collegiate athletics to concerts
ANCHORAGE – The new pride and joy of the University of Alaska Anchorage Athletic Department is just months away from completion.
Scheduled to open in August, the Alaska Airlines Center is a 5,000-seat venue for basketball, volleyball and gymnastics. It also holds office space, medical and catering facilities and an auxiliary gym. Tlisa Northcutt, the university’s athletic development director, said the new arena would provide a community venue for everything from collegiate athletics to concerts and commencement ceremonies.
“There’s not a bad seat in the house,” she said.
