A graduate of the Medill Journalism School at Northwestern University, Andrea earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism, and returned home to Alaska in 2005 to pursue her dreams of reporting on Alaska Native issues in the mainstream media. Andrea is the recipient of three Alaska Broadcaster's Association Awards in the Best Feature, Best Feature Series, and Uniquely Alaskan categories. She also received a Native American Journalist's Association Award for exploring the impacts of methamphetamines on women in Montana's prisons.

Yup'ik and Athabascan, Andrea grew up in Aniak, a village of 600 on the Kuskokwim River. Andrea is proud of her heritage, and uses her Alaska Native identity and cultural values to help tell stories in a ways that are not always seen in our state.
