Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich got an endorsement Wednesday from the Anchorage Police Union.

Now that Begich is the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, the Anchorage Police Union says they endorsed Begich because he has been an advocate for community and state crime prevention programs, as well as helped cut down crime in Alaska's largest city.

"You just have to look at the community: the Anchorage community. I think that speaks for itself. Look at what he's done," said President of the Anchorage Police Union Everett Robbins.

"To know that the folks that are on the ground, working day to day fighting crime, recognize that as a U.S. senator, I'll bring more resources back to Alaska and back to this country. So, thank you guys

very much for the endorsement," said Mark Begich, (D) U.S. Senate Candidate.

Begich says his senate campaign will be moving full steam ahead, but he will still be able to perform his duty as Anchorage's mayor.
