Anchorage nonprofit plans book giveaway

By KTVA CBS 11 News 10:17 AM August 14, 2014
ANCHORAGE –

Books can be expensive, but one organization is making sure that no child is left behind. Stephanie Berglund, CEO of Thread, joined KTVA’s Daybreak Thursday to talk about the 8th annual Book Party in the Park.

Thread’s mission is to advance quality early learning and empower parents as their child’s first teacher, Berglund said. Throughout the month of July the organization collected donations of new and gently used children’s books from Anchorage businesses. Books were also donated at Thread offices.

Thursday, the books will be distributed to children of all ages at the organization’s annual Book Party in the Park. The free event includes storytelling, arts and crafts, live entertainment and other family-focused activities. Thread’s goal is to allow more children in Anchorage to have the opportunity to enjoy reading.

The Book Party in the Park will take place from 4-7 p.m. at Garden Art Park in Mountain View.
