Anchorage Mayor’s Charity Ball recepients announced

By Rhonda McBride 8:41 PM December 4, 2013

Event is the third largest fundraiser on record in Alaska

ANCHORAGE – This year’s Anchorage Mayor’s Charity Ball will go down as the third biggest fundraiser on record in Alaska.

The ball was back in October. Today: The payout.

More than $200,000 was divvy’d up  between four charities — the Alaska Dance Theatre, the Alaska Injury Prevention Center,  the Downtown Soup Kitchen and the Alaska Winter Olympics Fund.

“For us, the Alaska Winter Olympians Fund, this couldn’t  have happened at a more opportune year,” said Olympic champion Rosie Fletcher. “Leading into Sochi, we just finished our grant period. We just granted out $30,000  to the athletes that are traing for the Sochi Olympics right now.”

The Mayor’s Charity Ball began in 1994. Since that time, more than $2.7 million has been raised for charity.
